Rocket Racoon – DIY Costume

in Blog, DIY, Holidays on 17/10/17

My son said his little boy wanted to be Rocket Racoon for Halloween but I really think he wanted to be Star Lord.  Making Rocket was easy but you’ll need to know how to sew. I used a simple PJ jumpsuit pattern.

You’ll need faux blue and brown leather

Long thermal top and pants

Fake Fur – Black, White and Raccoon

Plastic mask (I used a PJ Mask)

Raccoon tail – I bought a Daniel Boone hat with a very real looking raccoon tail

Stuffed animal nose (you could make a nose if you wanted to take the time)

His face doesn’t show it but he loved it.

I cut out the front and back pieces in the blue leather and pleated the brown to make it look like Rocket.

I added the zipper and then sewed the front to the back.  The brown faux leather was added to the sleeve and collar.

I also sewed a belt and little “fanny pack” to make it more authentic.

I sewed fake fur to the legs of the long thermal pants.  I did the same for the sleeves on the top.

This is what the front looked like finished.

The back needed a bushy raccoon tail.

I used a PJ Mask but you can use most any mask.

I hot glued the fake fur to cover the mask.

I cut out a face and nose from a hedgehog stuffed animal I bought at the dollar store.

I glued on the white fur around the eyes and then glued on the nose (I stuffed it with some batting to make it look full)

I then added the black.  The black fur covered the top rough edge of the nose.

Rocket Raccoon is ready to trick or treat.

I made Groot for his cousin.  Here’s the link to make Groot.

Oh, hi there!

I like to describe myself as a woman of leisure but in reality I’m Mr. B’s project manager. It’s not a bad gig and it does come with many benefits. I plan our trips, as we travel the world. I'm kept busy creating and designing our beautiful homes. The best perk is I usually chose the movie we see every Friday. I’m a part-time artist, with aspirations of becoming a full-time artist. Painting, photography and all types of crafting are my true loves. I like to say I’m an artist of many mediums and master of none.
My finest creations would be my five children. I’ve also allow them to parent my thirteen amazing grandchildren. My grandchildren are all brilliant, beautiful, spirited and take after me – their Mimi.
