Our first port was the medieval town of Dubrovnik. Since it was Sunday many of the shops and tourist places were closed, but that just made it feel less like a tourist town.
The first thing to do in Dubrovnik is to walk the city walls. The old town is a UNESCO site and is surrounded by ancient walls that were built by the Romans. The walls surround the entire town and give you amazing views of the ocean and the town. If you walk the entire wall it will take between 1- 2 hours to stroll around and includes a whole lot of steps!
The next thing to do is to stop and relax at a cafe for some amazing hot chocolate and people watching. These local ladies outside of the Sponza Palace were doing just that on a Sunday afternoon. Next to the Palace is the Dubrovnik Cathedral that includes a museum. I’m told that Jesus’ diaper is on display but since it was Sunday the museum part of the church was closed. Maybe next time I’ll have to check it out.
The third thing to do is wander the polished cobble-stoned streets. It’s truly magical if you are lucky enough to be in the town at night.
