My first impression of Amsterdam you would think would be all the canals but it was the bikes. They are everywhere and you can even rent a bike to ride wherever you want to go and then drop if off in a bike stand.
Of course we did a canal tour. It always seems strange to get off a cruise ship to take a boat tour.
That said boat tours are an easy way to see the architecture and get a feel for a town. There is also no traffic issues and you don’t have to peak out a backseat window to see. Amsterdam buildings have fun roof lines and I wanted to go to the top of one of these buildings and look out the single window.
The Rijksmuseum was closed but we did go the Van Gogh museum and I wasn’t disappointed. The museum has an impressive collection of his work that covers his development over the years. I saw many sketches and paintings I haven’t seen before and came away more of a fan of this talent artist.
